Currently living and working in Taos, New Mexico, multi media artist
and graphic designer Caitlin Legere has been following her folly in the
southwest for four years - getting to know the flora and fauna and the
varied motions of clouds around a mountain peak. The forms and colors,
lands and lines, infuse her work with the unique flavor of the high
desert.
In comparison to the artistic style of her more industrial-influenced
New York-state-based work, the jagged horizon, vivid colors, juxtaposed
and extreme land forms of northern New Mexico have expanded her visual
vocabulary so that, she feels, nearly any line drawn can be
representative rather than abstract. Although much of her work is
modern and poetic in subject matter and style, she also has a great
fondness for the skills of biological illustration, the academic root
which sustains her feral departure in style in her more colorist, or
poetic, works.
Being described as a dreamer in her teens once made her worried and
defensive. Today, she has come to realize that without, in fact, being
a dreamer, her art would not be possible. It is that quality in her
which imparts the hope and joy found in her work to which viewers so
whole-heartedly respond.
