Donald Rothenberg

Donald Rothenberg was born in New York City in 1921. He knew from an early age that art was his passion, his strength, and most certainly his career goal. In 1938, Rothenberg enrolled in the American School of Design and City College of New York. When serving in the 12th Armored Division during World War II in Europe, he used is creative talent for map making. Upon his return to New York, Rothenberg became a vital member of the Art Students League which helped him launch his career and professional recognition in New York. Creating oil paintings, sculptures and commissions eventually cleared a path that defined him as a highly sought-after artist.
In 1976, Rothenberg received an outstanding commission from The Eaton Foundation to create a commemorative pewter sculpture for the American bicentennial celebration. The success and exposure of this important assignment are part of his prolific career that has placed many of his works in private and public collections in the United States, Europe and Israel. Rothenberg now resides in New York State.
