Janine Wesselmann was born in 1947 in upstate New York and was drawing and painting intensely by the age of six. One of the premier impressionist artists working today, Janine is a master of color, light and composition and is known for her discerning approach to her subjects.
Noted by museums, collectors and critics alike for her parodies of European and American social life, Janine paints a satirical look at society while remaining true to the impressionistic genre. Her work is collected extensively and she has won numerous awards in the United States and Europe.
Janine has been included in Who’s Who of American Women since 1983. She was the first American to show at the Exposition du Printemps, France, and the Centro Culturale, Rome, for which she was awarded the official endorsement of the State of Connecticut. Her Retrospective in England at the home of the Duke of Buckingham led to her award for Leadership in the Arts, Cambridge, England. In 1997 she was named Cultural Emissary to France.
She works primarily in France and out of her studio in West Redding, CT.
